I attended two graduate level classes in White Hall:

i.                    Theory and Practice in Teaching Reading with Dr. William Bintz where I was introduced to the concept of reader-response strategies and the power of picture books.  Each class took me further into the world of reading and the class practiced Literature Circles or Book Talks.

ii.                  The Teaching of Drama in the Classroom with Dr. Anthony A. Manna was a very interesting and new concept to me. Process drama is distinctly different from Creative Drama. The course is intended to explore drama strategies that involve adolescents in dramatic contexts intended to enhance reading, oral language, writing, and thinking skills. It engages children in critical reading practices and at the same time sanctions genuine response (Hertzberg, 2000a). It provides intrinsic values for children, develops the imagination, provides an opportunity for vicarious experience, develops insight into human motives, and provides enjoyment.

iii.                I had the fortune to sit-in on Dr. Wendy Kasten’s class on Action Research, Dr. Alexa Sandman’s class on Teaching Literature, Dr. Tricia Rishel’s class on Multicultural Education, Dr. Drew Tiene’s class on Instructional Technology and Dr. Susan Iverson’s doctorate level class on Intercultural Education.
